Moment in Time, a painting by Kymme Fraser contemporary Scottish artist

About Me

I was born in Edinburgh, studied in Aberdeen and worked in Glasgow before returning to Aberdeen in early 1990’s to work and raise a family. I have always loved art and painting and have participated in many courses, workshops and exhibitions over the years. I have just recently given up full-time employment in order to concentrate on an art career.

I exhibit and sell work at galleries in the North East of Scotland including Larks Gallery, Ballater and Country Frames Gallery, Insch. I participate each year in the North East Open Studios event each September, either from my own home studio or in other various venues in Aberdeen. I am the Vice President of the Stonehaven Art Group and have exhibited at the annual exhibition in Stonehaven for a number of years, winning various awards. I am also a member of the Aberdeen Artists Society and participant in the Pittenweem Arts Festival.

How I Work

I paint Scottish land and seascapes in a modern, semi-abstract style in acrylic and acrylic inks.  Paint is layered using brush and palette knife to create depth, interest and a sense of the beautiful coasts and countryside both here in the North East and more widely across Scotland.

My Journey as an Artist

Til Morning Comes, a painting by Kymme Fraser Art

I have always loved art, both looking at it and creating it.  Lucky enough to have been at school in the 1970s with the resources to experience painting, drawing, ceramics, weaving, screenprinting and applique.  Unlucky enough to be educated at a time when pursuing a career in art was an unconventional choice.  I have always been an artist but did something completely different professionally for the next 40 years after leaving school.  I really enjoyed my career in law and child protection.  But I am very fortunate to now be able to return to this first interest.

As my family grew up, I started going to evening classes in Aberdeen with a fabulous tutor, Helen Bruce, who has supported me ever since.  I have painted in groups and through clubs, attending short and long courses.  The most significant of these has been, firstly, the diverse range of workshop experiences over many years and with many tutors through Stonehaven Art Group and, secondly, annual week-long courses at Bridge House Art, Ullapool with amazing tutor Eleanor White.  “Self-taught” is not how I describe myself as I do not in any way take credit for all I have learned over the years from many other artists, tutors and friends in getting to this stage. It has been, and continues to be, a broad academy.

Framing and Glazing

My work is professionally framed to a high quality by Country Frames Gallery, Leslie, near Insch, Aberdeenshire.  Where glass is required, I use artist’s glass which is barely reflective, but does increase cost as you will appreciate.
